Mặt hàng xuất khẩu cá ngừ của Việt Nam năm 2010 được xem là năm thành công nhất với tổng khối lượng xuất khẩu cá ngừ đạt khoảng 82,6 nghìn tấn, trị giá 287 triệu đôla. Nhưng đến năm 2013, do thời tiết không thuận lợi cùng với chi phí xăng dầu tăng cao nên khiến việc khai thác gặp khó khăn. Vì nguyên nhân đó đã khiến thị phần của các thị trường của năm 2013 sao với năm 2012 thay đổi, cụ thể là: Mỹ đã giảm hơn bảy phần trăm, Nhật giảm 1.5 phần trăm. Việc xuất khẩu cá ngừ vẫn tiếp tục có xu hướng giảm cho đến năm 2015, đạt 470 triệu đôla, giảm 3 phần trăm so với năm ngoái, thị trường EU và Nhật Bản giảm sâu ( lần lượt là 20% và 10%).
