Giáo dục giới tính là một chủ đề gần đây bắt đầu được quan tâm nhiều hơn ở Việt Nam nhưng vẫn còn bị xem là một chủ đề nhạy cảm và ít được đề cập rộng rãi. Việc thiếu kiến thức và kỹ năng về giới tính cũng như tự bảo vệ bản thân khỏi xâm hại tình dục trong giới trẻ hiện nay đã đẩy vị trí xếp hạng của Việt Nam lên số 1 Đông Nam Á và số 5 Thế giới về tỷ lệ nạo phá thai. Đáng báo động hơn nữa là tỷ lệ này tập trung cao ở độ tuổi 15 đến 24.
