Thực hiện chủ trương này, tháng 12 năm 2015, Công ty TNHH Song Nguyên Kon Tum tổ chức khởi công xây dựng nhà máy xử lý và tái chế rác thải tại phường Ngô Mây, thành phố Kon Tum trên diện tích 16,13 ha; với quy mô công suất xử lý 200 tấn rác thải sinh hoạt/ngày đêm, cơ sở hạ tầng hoàn thiện với tổng mức đầu tư 1.439 tỷ đồng. Dự án được chia làm 2 giai đoạn, dự kiến đến năm 2018 thi công hoàn thành toàn bộ Dự án. Sau khi nhà máy hoàn thành đưa vào hoạt động sẽ xử lý toàn bộ lượng chất thải rắn sinh hoạt hàng ngày và chất thải rắn không nguy hại thuộc các khu công nghiệp, cơ sở y tế trên địa bàn thành phố Kon Tum; đồng thời sản xuất, tái chế làm phân vi sinh đối với các loại rác hữu cơ, góp phần tạo cảnh quan môi trường xanh, sạch, đẹp và trong lành cho thành phố Kon Tum trong tương lai (có quy trình thu gom xử lý, tái chế rác thải kèm theo).
