Kể từ những ngày đầu tiên UNICEF có mặt tại Việt Nam cho tới nay, chương trình hợp tác giữa UNICEF và Việt Nam đã chuyển hướng từ hoạt động ứng phó khẩn cấp và tái thiết sang đáp ứng các nhu cầu cơ bản về y tế và giáo dục. Hiện nay chương trình hợp tác của UNICEF tập trung vào cải thiện các dịch vụ xã hội và hỗ trợ xây dựng chính sách phù hợp và khung pháp lý hiệu quả để đảm bảo mỗi em trong 30 triệu trẻ em Việt Nam, gái cũng như trai có thể phát huy hết tiềm năng của mình
