Samsung bắt đầu trở thành tập đoàn quốc tế vào thập kỉ 90. Công ty Xây dựng Samsung (Samsung's construction) là nhà thầu xây dựng tháp đôi Petronas ở Malaysia, Taipei 101 ở Đài Loan, Burj Khalifa ở Các Tiểu vương quốc Ả Rập Thống nhất. Năm 1993, Lee Kun-hee bán 10 công ty con của tập đoàn, cắt giảm nhân sự, sát nhập các lĩnh vực hoạt động khác để tập trung vào 3 lĩnh vực chính: điện tử, xây dựng và hóa chất. Năm 1996, tập đoàn Samsung mua lại đại học Sungkyunkwan.
