A router [a] is a network device that forwards packets between network computers. A router is connected to two or more of the data from different networks (as opposed to a network switch, which connects the data from a single network). When a packet comes in on one of the lines, the router reads the address information in the package to its final destination. Then, it uses the information in the routing table or routing policy, directs the package into the next network on its journey. This creates a coating internetwork. The router performs the function of "directing traffic" on the Internet. A data packet is forwarded from one router to another through networks that make up the internetwork until it reaches the destination node. [1]The router types, familiar for small and home office router that simply pass data, such as web, email, IM, and video between computers and the Internet. An example of a router owner's going to cable or DSL router, connect to the Internet through an ISP. The more complex, such as the corporate router, connect the large enterprise or ISP network up to the powerful core routers that forward data at high speed along the lines of optical Internet backbone. Although the router usually dedicated hardware devices, using the router-based software has grown increasingly popular.
