Như chúng ta đã biết, hiện nay internet là một phương tiện truyền thông phát triển nhanh và mạnh mẽ, mặc dù ra đời muộn nhưng internet đã có những bước phát triển như vũ bão, nó xóa nhòa biên giới quốc gia đưa con người xích lại gần nhau hơn. Đặc biệt trong thời kỳ hội nhập và phát triển bây giờ, internet càng có vị trí quan trọng,nó giúp con người nắm bắt được mọi thông tin trên thế giới một cách nhanh nhât mà chỉ cần ngồi một chỗ. Tuy nhiên nó cũng có nhứng tác hại nếu như con người quá lạm dụng, nó sẽ ảnh hưởng trực tiếp đến con người mà ta không thể lường trước được.
Internet bắt đầu xuất hiện từ những năm thập niên 60. Tuy nhiên tại thời điểm đó nó chỉ được sử dụng nội bộ và phục vụ chủ yếu cho quân sự. Ngày 19/11/1997 là ngày đầu tiên Việt Nam chính thức hòa vào mạng internet toàn cầu, sau 15 năm hoạt động Internet trở thành một thuật ngữ hầu như ai cũng biết, một phương tiện truyền thông ai ai cũng đang sử dụng, thậm chí với một số bộ phận còn phụ thuộc hoàn toàn. Tầm ảnh huởng của internet phát tán mạnh mẽ khi nó bắt đầu phát huy công dụng giải trí của mình, người ta không chỉ có thể tìm tư liệu mà còn xem phim, nghe nhạc, chơi game trên mạng. Internet quả thực là hữu ích trong đời sống chúng ta hiện nay. Vậy thực chất Internet là “con dao 2 lưỡi” ảnh hưởng đến tương lai như thế nào? Chúng ta hãy cùng nhau xét trên hai phương diện: sử dụng internet có hiệu quả, chừng mực và lạm dụng, phụ thuộc vào internet quá nhiều.
Đầu tiên, trường hợp sử dụng internet có hiệu quả, chừng mực. Trong trường hợp này, internet đem lại cho con người ta vô vàn lợi ích và hành trang vào đời. Internet là một pho Từ điển bách khoa đồ sộ, một thư viện khổng lổ mà tất cả các thư mục được sắp xếp với một trật tự gần như hoàn hảo. Bạn có thể tra cứu trên mạng những thông tin quan trọng thuộc mọi lĩnh vực: khoa học, kĩ thuật, công nghệ, văn học, nghệ thuật… Internet còn là một trường học mở cửa suốt ngày đêm. Chương trình đào tạo trực tuyến của các trường Đại học danh tiếng trong nước và trên thế giới có các khóa học với nội dung và phương pháp giảng dạy hiện đại luôn sẵn sàng chào đón bạn ở bất cứ nơi nào, thời điểm nào. Đào tạo từ xa trên Internet là hình thức giáo dục ít tốn kém nhất mà không kém phần hiệu quả bởi nó phát huy cao độ tính chủ dộng, tự giác của người học. Internet cũng góp phần nâng cao chất lượng quản lí, điều hành Nhà nước của Chính phủ. Thế giới giải trí trên mạng Internet thật phong phú, sinh động. Đây là một sân chơi thú vị với các chương trinh game online, các kênh truyền hình, các tờ báo và tạp chí điện tử… Trong đời sống hiện đại, khi quá căng thẳng vì công việc, chúng ta dành một khoảng thời gian ngắn ngủi để tham gia sân chơi ấy cũng là một cách giải tỏa stress, thư giãn để lấy lại sự cân bằng, tái tạo sức lao động. Ngoài ra, ta có thể trò chuyện với người thân, bạn bè… bất chấp mọi khoảng cách không gian. Internet giúp chúng ta gần nhau thêm dù công việc bận rộn và thời gian ít ỏi. Nó tạo ra lối sống hiện đại, công nghiệp hóa. Trong tương tai gần, có thể Internet còn trở thành một hệ thống siêu thị và trung tâm mua sắm tiện ích. Và cũng vì những điều nói bên trên, con người ta sẽ được phát triển toàn diện hơn về mọi mặt như học tập, ca hát, kỹ năng sống và sẽ trở thành một con người hội nhập cùng thế giới với kiến thức nắm vững trong tay.
Bên cạnh những lợi ích thiết thực thì internet cũng mang lại cho con người nhiều phiền toái khi mặt trái của internet luôn tồn tại.
