măng cụt còn có tên là "sơn trúc tử" hay "mangoustanier". loài măng cụt này thuộc họ Bứa, thân to, có thể cao đến 20 mét. Người ta cho rằng cây măng cụt nguồn gốc ở các đảo La Sôngđơ và Môluyc (Malaixia, Inđônêxya) sau được các nhà truyền giáo đạo gia tô di thực vào miền Nam Việt Nam. Hiện nay được trồng rông rãi ở Nam Bộ. Còn thấy ở Philìpin, Inđônexya, Malaixia. Măng cụt có vị ngọt, thơm ngon. Khi mới chín có màu trắng trong, nhưng sau ít ngày thì ngả màu vàng, kém thơm và có vị chát do đó khó chuyên chở đi xa. Người ta trồng chủ yếu để lấy múi và hạt mà ăn; vỏ quả phơi khô dùng chữa một số bệnh.
