Triển lãm Ly khai lần thứ 14 được tổ chức vào năm 1902 với chủ đề kỷ niệm nhà soạn nhạc vĩ đại Ludwig van Beethoven. Triển lãm có bức tượng Beethoven do Max Klinger tạc, đặt tại sảnh trung tâm.

Max Klinger nảy ra ý tưởng làm bức tượng này khi ông đang chơi piano lúc còn là một sinh viên. Từ mô hình đầu tiên bằng thạch cao tô màu năm 1885/1886 tới tác phẩm hoàn thiện bằng đá cẩm thạch, Max Klinger đã mất 15 năm lao động.

Bức tượng khác thường này đã bị công chúng la ó chế giễu trong suốt thời gian diễn ra triển lãm. Sau triển lãm vài năm, thành phố Leipzig đã mua bức tượng này.

Tại triển lãm Ly khai 1902 tường trong phòng đặt bức tượng Beethoven được trang trí bởi bức bích họa Beethoven’s Frieze do Gustav Kimt vẽ.
