Xuất phát từ cách hiểu về ẩn dụ ý niệm như đã trình bày ở trên, chúng tôi cho rằng: ẩn dụ ý niệm tình yêu là một loại ẩn dụ mà trong đó tình yêu được hình dung như một sự vật, trạng thái hay sự kiện không có mối liên hệ gì với nó trong thực tế.
Như vậy, nếu phân tích theo cơ cấu của một ẩn dụ ý niệm, thì ở đây, tình yêu với tư cách là ý niệm “đích”, được ý niệm hoá thông qua ý niệm “nguồn” là những sự vật, hiện tượng thuộc một phạm trù hoàn toàn khác, không có mối liên hệ gì với nó trong thực tế khách quan. Tức là người Việt dựa vào kinh nghiệm của mình về những mô hình thuộc thế giới vật chất cụ thể (ý niệm nguồn) để ý niệm hoá hiện tượng tình yêu (ý niệm đích).
