Họ từ bỏ và mau mắn đáp trả theo Chúa. Họ là ai? Họ là những người đánh cá, bình dân, quê mùa, không có học vấn cao, bằng cấp, địa vị… nhưng họ đã đáp trả lời mời gọi đó một cách hăng hái và từ bỏ tất cả để theo Chúa. Họ đã được Chúa biến đổi và làm cho trở thành những “lưới người như lưới cá”. Trường hợp ơn gọi của Matthêu cũng gây nhiều ngạc nhiên: ông là một người thu thuế, nhưng khi nghe tiếng Chúa gọi: “Hãy theo ta! Ông trả lời tức thì và quảng đại, bỏ tất cả, ông đứng dậy, đi theo Người (Lc 5,28). Tất cả đều được Chúa mời gọi và tất cả đã đáp trả và từ bỏ để theo Chúa.
