Người thứ hai tên Ben là ông Benjamin Hall –nghị sĩ có đóng góp trong việc làm ra những quả chuông và chiếc đồng hồ. Tên của ông được khắc trên quả chuông thứ nhất nhưng đáng tiếc nó đã bị rạn nứt ngay sau ấy. Nhưng tất nhiên, quả chuông Big Ben ngày nay nổi tiếng hơn nhiều so với nguồn gốc cái tên của nó.

Còn một lí giải khác đó là có người cho rằng đây là tên ghép của hai kiến trúc sư thiết kế ra chiếc tháp đồng hồ này.

Năm 2016, Big Ben đã chính thức được đổi tên thành Tháp Elizabeth nhằm kỉ niệm 60 năm Nữ hoàng Elizabeth II trị vì vương quốc Anh thế nhưng cái tên Bigben vẫn quen thuộc hơn cả.
