Từ một công ty chuyên sản xuất bản mạch in điện tử (Printed Circuit Board –PCB) được thành lập năm 1975 tại tỉnh Kanagawa, Nhật Bản, sau hơn 30 năm phát triển, Tập đoàn Điện tử Meiko đã trở thành một trong những tập đoàn đứng đầu thế giới về sản xuất bản mạch in điện tử và lắp ráp linh kiện điện tử. Hiện nay tập đoàn có 4 nhà máy tại Nhật Bản, 2 nhà máy tại Trung Quốc, 1 nhà máy tại Việt Nam (Hà Nội) và nhiều trung tâm nghiên cứu, văn phòng đại diện trên toàn cầu.

Ngày 20 tháng 10 năm 2006, tại thủ đô Tokyo, trước sự chứng kiến của thủ tướng Nguyễn Tấn Dũng và các quan chức cao cấp của chính phủ, tập đoàn Meiko đã ký kết thỏa thuận đầu tư xây dựng nhà máy điện tử tại tỉnh Hà Tây (cũ) với tổng số vốn đầu tư 300 triệu USD.
