Công nghệ thông tin và truyền thông (Information and Communication Technology – ICT) là một thành tựu lớn của cuộc cách mạng khoa học-kỹ thuật hiện nay đã và đang ảnh hưởng lớn đến mọi lĩnh vực của đời sống xã hội. Đặc biệt là trong các lĩnh vực nghiên cứu khoa học, giáo dục, đào tạo, ICT hiện đang được đưa vào sử dụng cho việc giảng dạy, học tập tất cả các môn học tự nhiên, kỹ thuật, xã hội và nhân văn. Thực tế cho thấy ứng dụng ICT vào công tác giảng dạy học tập đã mang lại hiệu quả rõ rệt đó là nâng cao chất lựơng giáo dục cả về mặt lý thuyết và thực hành. Đối với việc giảng dạy và học tập tiếng Anh nói riêng, ứng dựng ICT cũng đã chứng minh những hiệu quả ưu việt, tăng cường chất lượng dạy và học đồng thời giáo viên cảm thấy hứng thú với giảng dạy và sinh viên thích học tập tiếng Anh hơn bởi nội dung bài giảng sinh động hơn, sinh viên dễ tiếp thu hơn, nhớ lâu hơn khi có sự trợ giúp của các phương tiện thông tin và truyền thông.
