Nhìn chung sinh viên nhận thức đúng đắn về hoạt động tự học ngoài giờ lên lớp và dành một thời gian đáng kể cho hoạt động này. Bên cạnh một bộ phân sinh viên rất nỗ lực rất nhiều cho tự học thì vẫn còn một bộ phận sinh viên không nhỏ dành rất ít cho hoạt động tự học. Có sự khác biệt rõ giữa những sinh viên các trường, ở các nơi cư trú, ở giới tính trong việc sử dụng thời gian ngoài giờ lên lớp có sinh viên.
