2.1 Câu trần thuật gián tiếp: ( A statement in reported speech)
Để tường thuật được một câu trực tiếp có dạng câu trần thuật, học sinh cần phải nắm dạng của nó.



Ví dụ: He said, “ I am a doctor”. → He said he was a doctor.
Đối với dạng này, chúng ta hướng dẫn học sinh cách đổi thì của động từ trong mệnh đề phụ của câu trực tiếp, chú ý người nói, xác định người nghe, đổi các đại từ sở hữu, các trạng từ trong câu nếu có.Sau đây là cách đổi các thì từ câu trực tiếp sang câu gián tiếp:

Trong chương trình lớp 8 học sinh cơ bản nắm các sự chuyển đổi thì như trên, lưu ý thì hiện tại hoàn thành các em sẽ được học khi lên cấp 3 nên ta không đề cập ở đây.
Các đại từ nhân xưng, tính từ sở hữu trong câu gián tiếp thường được thay đổi như sau:
