Sang đến năm 2012, lượng xuất khẩu gạo đạt mức kỉ lục, tuy nhiên giá gạo trên thế giới suy giảm mạnh đã khiến giá gạo Vietnam giảm theo còn 432 USD/ton. Theo bộ công thương, giá gạo năm 2014 có xu hướng tăng là do Vietnam đã xuất khẩu khối lượng gạo lớn sang Philippin, Malaysia và Indonesia
