Tuy nhiên bên cạnh những lợi ích đó còn tồn tại những bất cập ảnh hưởng đến nhận loại mà internet mang lại đặc biệt là giới trẻ, hiện nay nhiều loại hình tội phạm cao lợi dụng internet để chiếm đoạt tài sản, lừa đảo xuất hiện ngày càng nhiều và vô cùng tinh vi, với trẻ em thì rất bất cập nhiều trẻ em bị chầm cảm bị hỏng mắt vì game, bạo lực ngày càng gia tăng…lộ thông tin cá nhân,thông tin của cơ quan đơn vị…
Mạng xã hội được sáng tạo và phát triển là nhằm phục vụ lợi ích của xã hội, tuy nhiên sử dụng nó như thế nào thì sẽ chịu tác động tích cực hay tiêu cực, điều đó phụ thuộc vào mỗi con người. Không thể phủ phận những mặt tích cực mà mạng xã hội đã mang lại, vì nó giúp thế giới “phẳng hơn, nhỏ hơn, gần hơn”. Qua đó con người nhận biết, tiếp thu, nâng cao được tầm hiểu biết, tri thức, kiến thức.Vì đây là một đặc trưng quan trọng của xã hội hiện đại– xã hội thông tin mà mạng xã hội chỉ là một trong những công cụ.
