Không ít ý kiến cho rằng đã là tình nguyện thì phải làm những “việc lớn”, đi về những vùng xa xôi chứ không “bõ công” làm những việc nhỏ. Đồng ý rằng, thanh niên luôn thích đi xa, đến những vùng gặp khó khăn bạn sẽ cảm thấy vui hơn với môi trường mới, được sống với bà con ở đó sẽ thấy nhiều điều thú vị. Nhưng ngay tại thành phố cũng có rất nhiều nơi cần chúng ta. Vì người thiệt thòi ở đâu cũng có. Vả chăng không phải thấy vui thì mới đi tình nguyện.
