I am honored to be accompanying President Obama on this visit - my third visit to Vietnam in his capacity as Foreign Minister - and I was very impressed, and always so, as witnessed remarkable growth in Vietnam bilateral relations - United States.
From the first time set foot in Vietnam as a young soldier in 1968 to the most recent visit in May, I witnessed amazing changes taking place out, from the high-rise buildings in the city to entrepreneurship are flourishing to the flow of people, goods and ideas from every corner of Vietnam into the United States and elsewhere.
Among these changes, something immutable and that makes me cherish Vietnam it was the warmth, generosity and ingenuity of the people of Vietnam.
the resilience and desire for ages want to pass the shadows of the past to look forward to a prosperous society, healthier and more freedom to our children and future generations have shaped the great development of Vietnam.
Vietnam has huge potential and I am confident that Vietnam will have bright future thanks to the dedication of the youth, the business community and a dynamic civil society.
We look forward to continuing to deepen relations increasingly comprehensive and strategic to Vietnam to promoting common interests in building and maintaining an order based on law, not only in Asia - Pacific, but around the world.
on this occasion, I wish the people of Vietnam for peace and prosperity in the coming years. "
