Phương pháp dạy - học ở trường luật của Mỹ rất khác so với phương pháp của các trường ở Pháp và ở Anh. Sinh viên phải đọc tài liệu trước khi đến lớp (theo yêu cầu của Giáo sư). Tài liệu bao gồm: các bản án, văn bản pháp luật, học thuyết pháp lý (đoạn trích), một số bài viết kinh tế và xã hội học.
