The lateraland medial claws of the fore and hind limbs of eachanimal were examined after thorough cleaning. In orderto observe the anatomy of the sole, a hoof trimmergrinder was used to remove a thin layer (approximately 1to 3 mm) of the weight-bearing surface of each sole andthe solar surface of the bulb of the heel.In this study, yellow discoloration and bleeding ofthe sole, separation of the white line and erosion of theheel were considered lesions associated with subclinicallaminitis. Yellow discoloration of the sole was recorded asranging from slight yellow discoloration to severe yellowwaxy discoloration. Likewise, bleeding of the sole wasrecorded as varying from slight red discoloration tosevere bleeding with ulceration of the sole.Separation of the white line was determined when there
