Trình độ học sinh không đồng đều. Có nhiều học sinh có kiến thức sâu và rộng về Tiếng Anh nhưng bên cạnh đó còn không ít học sinh chưa đọc thành thạo, thậm chí một số những câu giao tiếp sơ đẳng nhất như hỏi tuổi, quê quán…mà các em cũng còn đọc ngập ngừng. Nhiều học sinh yếu về kỹ năng đọc, không hiểu được mình phải làm gì trong các hoạt động đọc. Một số học sinh rất ngại phát biểu, thụ động sợ trả lời không đúng.
