Philippines, một trong những nước nhập khẩu gạo lớn nhất thế giới, kế hoạch mua 250.000 tấn gạo từ một trong các nước Việt Nam, Thái Lan và Campuchia để dự trữ trước mùa mưa bão.

Chủ tịch Uỷ ban Lương thực Quốc gia (NFA), Leoncio Evasco, đã trình lên Tổng thống Rodrigo Duterte kế hoạch này để chờ phê duyệt, thông tin từ phát ngôn viên của NFA, Angel Imperial cho biết.
Đây sẽ là hợp đồng nhập khẩu gạo đầu tiên trong của chính phủ mới nhậm chức cách đây 6 tuần. Ông Duterte mục tiêu tự cung tự cấp lúa gạo trong nhiệm kỳ 6 năm của mình.
Đây cũng là lần đầu tiên Philippines trở lại thị trường sau 6 tháng vắng bóng, và các nước xuất khẩu hy vọng động thái này sẽ hỗ trợ giá gạo châu Á – vốn đang giảm trong mấy tuần gần đây do nhu cầu yếu.
Dự trữ gạo của NFA tính tới 31/7 đủ dùng trong 25 ngày. Ông Imperial cho biết mức dự trữ yêu cầu cho mùa giáp hạt tối thiểu là 30 ngày.
Nguồn tin Chính phủ cho biết việc nhập khẩu sẽ được tiến hành thông qua hình thức hợp đồng liên chính phủ, và các nhà cung cấp Việt Nam, Thái Lan và Campuchia sẽ chào giá. Hàng dự kiến sẽ giao trước khi kết thúc quý 3.
