Từ việc nghiên cứu thực trạng sản xuất, tiêu thụ và một số vấn đề khó khăn trong phát triển sản xuất ngô hàng hóa ở vùng Tây Bắc, chúng tôi đưa ra một số giải pháp chủ yếu sau: Thứ nhất, phát triển sản xuất ngô hàng hóa gắn với chuyển đổi cơ cấu cây trồng, đưa cây ngô vào thay thế những diện tích trồng lúa, cây trồng khác kém hiệu quả nhằm nâng cao giá trị gia tăng. Mở rộng diện tích ngô theo hướng tăng vụ bằng những giống ngô cho năng suất cao, chịu hạn tốt; khai thác triệt để diện đất có khả năng nông nghiệp nhằm hạn chế tối đa hoạt động sản xuất trên những diện tích đất có độ dốc cao, và tình trạng ngô xâm lấn đất rừng.
