Thay vì khai thác đề tài ông già Noel thường thấy, các nhà làm phim Hollywood thử nghiệm thể loại rùng rợn với ma quỷ cho đêm Giáng sinh.Dịp Giáng sinh, các hãng phim thường giới thiệu những tác phẩm gia đình nhẹ nhàng, ấm áp và pha chút hài hước. Tuy nhiên năm nay, hãng Universal muốn thay đổi không khí nên cho ra mắt bộ phim kinh dị mang tên Krampus (Krampus: Ác mộng đêm Giáng sinh).

Là nhân vật trong truyền thuyết phương Tây, Krampus được so sánh như phiên bản u ám của ông già Noel bởi thay vì mang niềm vui và những món quà, hắn chuyên tìm trẻ em hư để trừng trị.

Tờ National Geographic định nghĩa Krampus như một "ác quỷ ngoại đạo", có nguồn gốc từ thần thoại Đức và Hy Lạp. Tên gọi của hắn xuất xứ từ tiếng Đức (Krampen), có nghĩa là "chiếc móng". Theo mô tả từ các câu chuyện cổ, Krampus là sự hiện thân của ma quỷ với thân hình nửa người nửa dê, được trang trí bằng chuỗi chuông và bó gậy bạch dương để đánh đòn những đứa trẻ hư.

Từ truyền thuyết ấy, đạo diễn Michael Dougherty xây dựng câu chuyện riêng về Krampus trong tác phẩm cùng tên. Bộ phim tập trung vào yếu tố ly kỳ, gay cấn, kết hợp bối cảnh lung linh của mùa Giáng sinh như ánh nến, cây thông...

Phim bắt đầu khi đại gia đình nhà cậu bé Max tụ họp để tận hưởng kỳ nghỉ Giáng sinh. Nhưng mâu thuẫn, xích mích nội bộ làm mọi thứ trở nên hỗn độn. Từ đây, ác quỷ Krampus - nhân vật tưởng chừng chỉ tồn tại trong truyền thuyết - đột ngột xuất hiện, đe dọa tính mạng các thành viên trong gia đình.

Phim có sự tham gia của các diễn viên Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner... Krampus dự kiến phát hành tại Việt Nam vào mùa Giáng sinh năm nay, từ ngày 18/12.
