Trong năm 2014, việc điều hành chính sách tiền tệ không chỉ thực hiện được mục tiêu ổn định tiền tệ trên cả 3 góc độ: kiềm chế tăng chỉ số giá tiêu dùng (CPI) trên thị trường xã hội; ổn định giá trị đối ngoại của đồng Việt Nam (tức tỷ giá); người dân hạn chế việc mua vàng để tìm nơi trú ẩn tài sản; mà còn thúc đẩy tăng trưởng GDP và góp phần giải quyết an sinh xã hội. Bên cạnh đó, còn có sự phối hợp chặt chẽ với chính sách tài khóa, hỗ trợ cân đối ngân sách nhà nước trong quá trình điều hành. Việc nhận định chính sách tiền tệ tại Việt Nam phải thực hiện đa mục tiêu cần được nhìn nhận rộng hơn với thực tế rõ ràng là, trong điều hành tỷ giá và quản lý ngoại hối, bao gồm cả quản lý thị trường vàng, chính sách này còn phải thực hiện mục tiêu giảm thâm hụt cán cân thương mại, hạn chế nhập siêu.

Kết quả thực hiện mục tiêu chính sách tiền tệ năm 2014 đã rất rõ ràng: CPI chỉ tăng 4,09%; thấp hơn nghị quyết của Quốc hội và mục tiêu phấn đấu của Chính phủ, tỷ giá VND/USD năm 2014 tăng 0,56% so với năm 2013, phù hợp với định hướng điều hành của Ngân hàng Nhà nước. Kết thúc năm 2014, Việt Nam xuất siêu trên 2,1 tỷ USD; quỹ dự trữ ngoại tệ quốc gia đạt trên 35 tỷ USD; GDP tăng 5,98%, cao hơn mức 5,4% của năm 2013.
