Saint Lucia được xem là hòn ngọc quý của vùng biển Caribe, còn được ví là “thiên đường xanh của Trái đất”. Nhiều người ngờ rằng đây chính là một phần của Hawaii trôi dạt về vùng biển này. Từ trên cao, hòn đảo hình giọt nước mắt Saint Lucia trông giống như một mảnh trang sức quý từ trên trời rơi xuống vùng biển Đông Caribe với các ngọn núi xanh ngọc, những bãi biển vàng và làn nước trong vắt lấp lánh ánh kim cương dưới ánh mặt trời.

Hòn đảo “2 trong 1″

Đảo quốc Saint Lucia rộng chỉ 619km², dân số chưa đầy 200 ngàn người, là một trong những hòn đảo đang thu hút lượng khách du lịch đông nhất vùng biển Caribe. Thiên đường xanh bé nhỏ này được người châu Âu khai phá từ những năm 1500 và kể từ đó, hai nước Anh, Pháp liên tục thay nhau giành quyền thống trị. Vì lý do này, Saint Lucia còn được gọi là “Helen của vùng Tây Ấn” theo tích “Helen của thành Troy” trong sử thi Iliad.

Mãi đến năm 1924, sau 14 lần giằng co giữa Anh và Pháp, chính quyền đại diện Saint Lucia mới được thành lập. Từ năm 1979, Saint Lucia chính thức trở thành quốc gia độc lập và là thành viên của khối Thịnh vượng Anh.

Nơi đây còn nổi tiếng vì “nhỏ mà có võ”: hai cư dân đoạt được giải Nobel là Sir W. Arthur Lewis (Nobel Kinh tế năm 1979) và nhà thơ Derek Walcott (Nobel Văn chương năm 1992). Dân Saint Lucia đa số là người da đen, nói tiếng Anh và sử dụng đồng USD.

Nằm trong vùng núi lửa giữa đại dương nên Saint Lucia có phong cảnh tự nhiên rất khác so với các hòn đảo khác trên vùng biển Caribe. Đó là những dãy núi đẹp ngoạn mục được tạo thành từ hoạt động của núi lửa, những cánh rừng cổ thụ khổng lồ, những đồng cỏ xanh mướt và vô số vườn hoa sặc sỡ sắc màu…

Cao nhất ở đây là ngọn núi Gimie (950m), còn nổi tiếng nhất lại là hai ngọn núi nằm gần nhau cùng tên là Piton (cao khoảng 600m) có hình dáng giống như bộ ngực của phụ nữ. Hai ngọn núi này cũng được du khách biết đến nhiều và được chọn là biểu tượng của Saint Lucia.

Lợi thế về cảnh đẹp tự nhiên giúp cho ngành dịch vụở đây rất phát triển. Trong khi nông nghiệp và công nghiệp chiếm tỷ lệ rất nhỏ trong tổng sản phẩm quốc nội của đảo quốc thì ngành dịch vụ đóng góp tới hơn 70%.

Du khách đến đây phần lớn là gia đình và các đôi uyên ương đi nghỉ tuần trăng mật. Sau khi đắm chìm trong cảnh sắc tươi đẹp, du khách có dịp thư giãn tại các hồ tắm bùn nóng, các bãi biển trắng mịn hoặc tham gia vào chuyến khám phá núi lửa kỳ thú.

Saint Lucia có hơn 20 hồ nước nóng lúc nào cũng sôi sùng sục, nhiệt độ lên tới hơn 300ºC. Màu sắc của mặt biển ở đây rất kỳ lạ nhờ sự pha trộn của ba màu đen, nâu và vàng – màu của các khoáng chất sắt, lưu huỳnh, canxi oxit…

Phía Bắc của đảo quốc là vịnh Rodney với nhiều resort tiện nghi hiện đại. Ở phía Nam, Soufrière là trung tâm của một khu vực tuyệt đẹp với các đồn điền xưa, bãi biển riêng và kỳ quan địa chất của hai ngọn Piton luôn được du khách ca ngợi “Không còn gì tuyệt hơn!”.

Tắm biển và khám phá Castrie

Ngay phía ngoài khách sạn đã có những người bán tour địa phương chào mời, chẳng hạn nếu đi taxi ra biển thì hai người tốn 25 USD, còn nếu muốn chờ thêm người đi chung thì chỉ tốn 6 USD/người. Vẫn còn sớm nên chúng tôi ngồi chờ, đưa mắt ngắm du khách tấp nập vào ra. Chừng nửa giờ sau, khi có đủ sáu khách, xe mới khởi hành.

Dọc đường từ Castrie đến bãi Reduit có nhiều trạm xe buýt nên người dân địa phương lên xuống khá đông. Có thể thấy thấp thoáng từ xa một vịnh nhỏ với nhiều du thuyền cập bến. Chỉ sau hơn 15 phút di chuyển, chúng tôi đã đến nơi.

Bãi Reduit nằm trong vịnh Rodney dài chừng hai cây số. Cát biển ở đây hơi vàng và to hạt. Nước biển trong, nhìn ngang thấy có màu ngọc thạch. Sóng biển không lớn, phù hợp với nhu cầu bơi lội, đùa giỡn của du khách nhưng tiếc là không thoải, độ dốc chuyển nhanh.
