Được xây cất năm 1805 dưới thời vua Gia Long và hoàn thành năm 1832 dưới triều đại vua Minh Mạng, quần thể di tích Cố đô Huế được coi là công trình đồ sộ nhất, là hệ thống lăng tẩm phong kiến hoàn chỉnh nhất trong lịch sử Việt Nam. Đây là nơi đóng đô của vương triều Nguyễn trong suốt 140 năm, ghi dấu ấn của 13 triều đại vua. Với những giá trị to lớn về lịch sử và kiến trúc của nó, quần thể di tích Cố đô Huế đã được UNESCO công nhận là di sản văn hóa thế giới năm 1993.
