Cũng thông qua mạng xã hội Facebook, cuối tháng 11/2014, chị N.T.H.H. (40 tuổi, ngụ Hà Nội), kết bạn với một người nước ngoài và anh ta tự giới thiệu tên là Nicholason Marcelon Smith, quốc tịch Úc, hiện sinh sống tại Úc. Chị H. và Nicholason thường xuyên nhắn tin qua Facebook với những lời lẽ yêu đương.

Ngày 2/12, Nicholason nói muốn gửi tiền về Việt Nam nhờ chị H giữ giúp để mua nhà, chị H đồng ý. Ngày 3/12, Nicholason nhắn tin là đã gửi cho chị H món quà gồm 1 ĐTDĐ và 1 túi xách tay, trong gói quà có giấu 200.000USD nhưng tiền không khai báo với công ty vận chuyển. Món quà sẽ đến Việt Nam vào ngày 5/12.

Để nhận được quà, chị H. phải nộp phí 1.550USD. Ngoài ra, chị H. cũng nhận được tin nhắn từ địa chỉ email [e-mail] với nội dung: Công ty Sea Fright Shipping Companny tại Úc đang vận chuyển một gói quà từ Úc về Việt Nam để giao cho chị H., chị H. phải đóng phí 1.550USD để nhận quà.

Ngày 5/12, theo yêu cầu của Nicholason, chị H. đến Ngân hàng ACB - Phòng giao dịch Nguyễn Hữu Huân, Hà Nội nộp 32,7 triệu đồng (tương đương 1.550USD) vào tài khoản số 4214954800316929 mang tên Dy Chenda và… chờ nhận quà.

Đến hẹn, vẫn không thấy quà gửi tới, chị H. cứ đinh ninh rằng chắc quà gửi đến trễ. Thế nhưng, ngày hôm sau, chị H. lại tiếp tục nhận tin nhắn từ email [e-mail] yêu cầu phải nộp thêm 1.140USD, rồi 3.720USD… vì công ty vận chuyển phát hiện trong gói quà có 200.000USD.

Tổng cộng, chị H. đã 5 lần nhận tin nhắn của Nicholason và tin từ email [e-mail], yêu cầu chị H. gửi tiền vào tài khoản số 4214954800316929 mang tên Dy Chenda mở tại Ngân hàng ACB và tài khoản số 101010004641495 mang tên Võ Thị Kim Thoa mở tại Ngân hàng Vietinbank với tổng số tiền hơn 177 triệu đồng. Riêng ngày 18/2/014, Nicholason nhắn tin cho chị H nộp tiếp 4.500USD nhưng biết mình đã bị lừa, nên chị H. không nộp nữa.
