Cuộc sống ngày càng văn minh, hiện đại, song tư tưởng “trọng nam khinh nữ” vẫn còn ăn sâu trong suy nghĩ và đời sống của không ít gia đình. Điều này không chỉ gây áp lực với người phụ nữ, ảnh hưởng tới chất lượng cuộc sống hôn nhân, mà còn góp phần gia tăng tình trạng mất cân bằng giới tính.
Gia đình không có con cháu trai nối dõi hiện nay vẫn bị xem là tuyệt tự và khi bố mẹ hoặc ông bà chết đi sẽ không có người và nơi thờ cúng là một thực tế. Thế nên phần lớn các gia đình hiện nay vẫn phải cố đẻ cho được con trai.
Mặc dù vẫn tuyên truyền không được trọng nam, khinh nữ nhưng không chuyển biến là mấy, dân số vẫn tăng cao. Thiết nghĩ cần phải có một cuộc cách mạng để tháo gỡ những vướng mắc mà các tư tưởng phong kiến vẫn trói buộc chúng ta bấy lâu nay.
Có thể thấy rằng tư tưởng trọng nam khinh nữ đã nối tiếp qua nhiều thế kỉ, nó không những chỉ làm mất cân bằng giới tính, mà còn làm rối loạn xã hội lẫn an ninh trật tự của đất nước. Hiện trạng đau lòng này không chỉ gây ám ảnh đối với người dân, đặc biệt là người phụ nữ, mà còn làm xôn xao dư luận.
