Trước tình trạng ô nhiễm kéo dài nhiều năm nay của sông Tô Lịch, UBND thành phố đã chỉ đạo các Sở, Ngành liên quan triển khai nhiều giải pháp từng bước cải tạo, phục hồi sông Tô Lịch. Một trong những biện pháp giảm thiểu ô nhiễm cho sông Tô Lịch được Sở tài nguyên & môi trường đề xuất là sử dụng chế phẩm sinh học để xử lý nước bề mặt theo từng đoạn hoặc theo từng cống xả chính, hoặc xử lý trực tiếp tại nguồn nước thải của các hộ gia đình, đồng thời, tiến hành nạo vét thường xuyên. Đây là giải pháp để có thể xử lý, phục hồi, làm sạch tạm thời chất lượng nước sông trong thời gian ngắn, phạm vi nhỏ, để chuẩn bị cho việc xây dựng và triển khai các phương án cải tạo lâu dài.
