Sau hơn 13 năm hoạt động, theo kế hoạch, niên khóa Nghiên cứu sinh và Học giả cuối cùng của VEF sẽ sang Mỹ học tập và nghiên cứu từ tháng 6 đến tháng 8 năm 2016, sau thời gian này các chương trình và dự án của Quỹ Giáo dục tại Việt Nam sẽ kết thúc. Do đó, ngày 20 tháng 11 năm 2015, Hội đồng Quản trị Quỹ Giáo Dục Việt Nam đã họp và thống nhất chấm dứt hoạt động Văn phòng đại diện của VEF tại Hà Nội, Việt Nam. Căn cứ vào biên bản họp của Hội Đồng Quản Trị, Chủ Tịch của VEF đã ra Quyết định chấm dứt hoạt động của Văn phòng đại diện của VEF tại Hà Nội. Thời gian chấm dứt kể từ ngày 01 tháng 10 năm 2016.
