Sau chiến tranh thế giới thứ ha

Sau chiến tranh thế giới thứ hai Mỹ trở thành nước tư bản giàu nhất, với tiềm lực, sức mạnh đó Mỹ muốn vươn lên bá chủ toàn cầu hoặc ít nhất là chi phối được tất cả các khu vực. Nhưng cũng sau chiến tranh thế giới thứ hai với phong trào giải phóng dân tộc lên cao nhiều nước đã giành được độc lập, về chiến lược phát triển của nhiều nước này là xây dựng đất nước để đi lên chủ nghĩa xã hội. Chính vì vậy, chủ nghĩa xã hội từ một nước là Liên Xô đã dần trở thành một hệ thống trên thế giới đối đầu với hệ thống các nước tư bản do Mỹ đứng đầu.
Để ngăn chặn sự phát triển, lan tràn và tiến tới tiêu diệt chủ nghĩa cộng sản, Mỹ đã thực hiện nhiều biện pháp hết sức cụ thể như là việc triển khai kế hoạch Marshall, xây dựng các khối quân sự như NATO, SEATO, CENTO,… gây ra hàng loạt các cuộc chiến tranh cục bộ như chiến tranh Triều Tiên, chiến tranh Việt Nam… đưa đến cục diện chung là chiến tranh lạnh.
Bản chất của chủ nghĩa tư bản là vơ vét bóc lột ở các nước thuộc địa để làm giàu cho chính quốc. Thế nhưng, với phong trào giải phóng dân tộc bùng lên mạnh mẽ đưa đến sự tan rã của hệ thống thuộc địa của nhiều nước tư bản. Đây cũng là thời điểm đánh dấu sự kết thúc của chủ nghĩa thực dân cũ. Do đó, để xác lập lại hệ thống thuộc địa, ngăn chặn sự lan tràn của chủ nghĩa xã hội, chi phối chính trị của các quốc gia… Mỹ đã thực hiện chủ nghĩa thực dân mới.
Việt Nam là một quốc gia có vị trí chiến lược trong bàn cờ Đông Nam Á, sau cuộc chiến tranh Triều Tiên, Mỹ đã nhận ra vị trí của Việt Nam nhất là miền Nam Việt Nam rằng nếu không chiếm Việt Nam thì chủ nghĩa xã hội sẽ lan tràn xuống Đông Nam Á theo thuyết Domino. Nhưng Mỹ không thể thực hiện chủ nghĩa thực dân cũ ở đây vì nó đã không còn phù hợp với tình hình hiện tại, do đó Mỹ đã dựa vào hiệp định Giơnevơ để xây dựng chủ nghĩa thực dân mới ở miền Nam Việt Nam bằng việc dựng lên chính quyền Ngô Đình Diệm.
Chỉ tiếc rằng, việc xây dựng chủ nghĩa thực dân mới của Mỹ ở miền Nam Việt Nam đã không được như ý muốn của Mỹ mà vấp phải sự đấu tranh quyết liệt của nhân dân miền Bắc và phe xã hội chủ nghĩa. Chính điều đó đã biến chiến tranh ở Việt Nam là một cuộc chiến tranh cục bộ trong cục diện chiến tranh lạnh. Ở đây, Mỹ đã thực hiện hay nói theo cách khác là đã có cơ hội được phô diễn sức mạnh và thử nghiệm các loại hình chiến tranh mới, các chiến lược quân sự mới, các loại vũ khí tối tân, hiện đại mới mà chúng ta thường gọi đó là chiến tranh thực dân mới của Mỹ.
Để tìm hiểu rõ hơn về chủ nghĩa thực dân mới và chiến tranh thực dân mới cũng như việc thực hiện chủ nghĩa thực dân mới, chiến tranh thực dân mới của Mỹ ở miền Nam Việt Nam, sự thất bại và nguyên nhân của sự thất bại đó… tôi đã chọn đề tài “Chủ nghĩa thực dân kiểu mới và chiến tranh thực dân mới của Mỹ ở miền Nam Việt Nam giai đoạn 1954 – 1975” để nghiên cứu.
