Nhưng chúng ta phải thừa nhận thực tế, có nhiều trường hợp người dân mắc bệnh hiểm nghèo, sống trong đau đớn về thể xác, dằn vặt về tinh thần hoặc đã sống thực vật, không còn nhận biết được thế giới. Không chỉ người bệnh khổ mà cả gia đình họ cũng gần như mất cuộc sống, mất tương lai khi dồn thời gian, công sức, tiền của trong nhà để chạy chữa cho người bệnh. Vì thế, cái chết êm ái trong trường hợp này, với bệnh nhân là một lựa chọn nhân văn hơn.
