Kinh Đô được thành lập từ năm 1993, trải qua 21 năm hình thành và phát triển, đến nay Kinh Đô đã trở thành một hệ thống các công ty trong ngành thực phẩm gồm: bánh kẹo, nước giải khát, kem và các sản phẩm từ Sữa. Định hướng chiến lược phát triển của Kinh Đô là Tập Đoàn Thực phẩm hàng đầu Việt Nam và hướng tới một Tập đoàn đa ngành: Thực phẩm, Bán lẻ, Địa ốc, Tài chính nhằm đảm bảo sự phát triển bền vững trong tương lai.
Từ quy mô chỉ có 70 cán bộ công nhân viên khi mới thành lập đến nay Kinh Đô đã có tổng số nhân viên là gần 8000 người. Tổng vốn điều lệ của Kinh Đô Group là 1,599 tỷ đồng. Tổng doanh thu năm 2012 đạt 4,285 tỷ đồng trong đó doanh thu ngành thực phẩm chiếm 99.2%, tổng lợi nhuận đạt 490 tỷ đồng.
