Giao tiếp mắt: người Nhật thường tránh nhìn trực diện vào người đối thoại, mà họ thường nhìn vào một vật trung gian như caravat, một cuốn sách, đồ nữ trang, lọ hoa..., hoặc cúi đầu xuống và nhìn sang bên. Nếu khi nói chuyện mà nhìn thẳng vào người đối thoại thì bị xem như là một người thiếu lịch sự, khiếm nhã và không đúng mực.
