Trong khi kinh tế vi mô tập trung vào các thị trường nhỏ lẻ và cơ sở của chúng cũng như những nhân tố cơ bản thì kinh tế vĩ mô lại nghiên theo những nghiên cứu về nền kinh tế như một tổng thể trên cả quy mô quốc gia và quốc tế.
