Những chiếc đèn trời của người Thái Lan sử dụng trong lễ hội có rất nhiều loại khác nhau từ hình dáng, mẫu mã đều vô cùng tinh tế và bắt mắt, trong đó có 3 loại đèn lồng chính là Khom Loi, Khom Lanna và Khom Khwean.
Hàng năm mỗi khi đến lễ hội, số lượng đèn lồng được sử dụng với một số lượng vô cùng lớn, ước tính có khoảng 20 - 30 nghìn chiếc đèn trời được thả lên trời vào mỗi dịp như thế. Do vậy mà tất cả các chất liệu làm ra đèn lồng đều thân thiện với môi trường, dễ phân hủy và không độc hại và còn có thể làm thức ăn cho một số loài sinh vật nhỏ.
Người ta thường lấy bột gạo, cán mỏng để làm ra giấy quấn quanh nan tre, ở giữa là nến và pin nhiên liệu. Khi nên hoặc pin nhiên liệu được đốt cháy, sẽ tạo ra một lượng khí nóng bị bẫy bên trong chiếc đèn trời, tạo ra đủ lực để nâng đèn lồng bay lên trời.
