Nếu sống và làm việc trong một đất nước châu Á, khi nói về cái đẹp, bạn sẽ thường nghe nhắc đến hình ảnh những cô gái có làn da trắng với một vẻ đẹp dịu dàng. Nhưng không phải lúc nào tôi không thích khuôn mẫu ấy. Trong thế giới của tôi, một cô gái da nâu, thậm chí đen tuyền như người dân ở lục địa đen lại có vẻ đẹp rất riêng biệt, toát lên sức cuốn hút kỳ lạ khó mà lý giải. Tôi thấy ở họ một sức sống mãnh liệt, một chút hoang dại và huyền bí gợi người ta nhớ đến hình ảnh cánh đồng hoang châu Phi hay những khu rừng già rậm rạp ẩn náu nguy hiểm lẫn thách thức. Cũng từ suy nghĩ ấy, tôi muốn vẽ nên một nét đẹp hoàn toàn khác lạ, mới mẻ và trong khung tranh là cô gái với làn da nâu đen, được tô điểm bằng các màu neon sống động, đang hòa mình cạnh chú bồ câu nhỏ hay những loài hoa nhiệt đới rực rỡ màu sắc. Một vẻ đẹp tràn đầy nhựa sống có thể chinh phục và để lại ấn tượng sâu đậm với bất kỳ ai nhìn thấy. Khi beauty editor Nicky Khánh Ngọc nói với tôi, “em sẽ đặt tựa bài là Viên Ngọc Đen anh nhé”, tôi thầm nghĩ có lẽ không một câu từ nào có thể diễn đạt hay hơn nữa.
