Quyền riêng tư là một quyền cơ bản và quan trọng của con ngừơi. Nhưng ngày nay, với sự phát triển của công nghệ thông tin, mạng xã hội, và báo mạng thì quyền này đang bị xâm hại tràn lan và ngày càng nghiêm trọng mà chưa có quy định xử lý cụ thể. Tôi thường đọc báo về những vụ việc kiện tụng khi có người cố tình đăng hồ sơ của người khác lên mạng, công bố chuyện riêng tư của người khác ra các phương tiện thông tin đại chúng trái pháp luật, hoặc chụp và đăng ảnh của người khác lên mạng khi chưa được phép. Tất cả đều dấy lên trong lòng mỗi người về việc liệu quyền riêng tư của họ đã bị xâm phạm quá mức. Ví dụ gần đây nhất là vụ việc năm 2013, Edward Snowden, một cựu nhân viên CIA, tiết lộ Mỹ và các đồng minh đang giám sát toàn bộ thế giới mạng.
