Tại Hội thảo, các đại biểu đã tập trung thảo luận làm rõ một số nội dung liên quan như: tên gọi của Luật; sự cần thiết phải ban hành Luật Dân tộc; phạm vi điều chỉnh; đối tượng áp dụng; bố cục của dự án Luật; những giải pháp thực hiện chính sách trong Luật Dân tộc;… Việc xây dựng Luật Dân tộc sẽ khẳng định và thể hiện rõ quan điểm nhất quán của Việt Nam về chính sách dân tộc, công tác dân tộc, thể chế hóa những quy định của Hiến pháp 2013 về quyền của người dân tộc thiểu số, đảm bảo thực hiện chính sách phát triển toàn diện và tạo điều kiện để các dân tộc thiểu số phát huy nội lực, cùng phát triển với đất nước
