Cùng mức độ quan tâm là loài Tê giác Java sondaicus , tuy nhiên con số khoảng 40-60 cá thể sống trong Công viên Ujong quốc gia Kulon trên mũi của Java, Indonesia. Cho đến gần đây một số lượng nhỏ của một phân loài này sống tại Việt Nam tại Vườn Quốc gia Cát Tiên, Việt Nam, nhưng cá thể cuối cùng có được tìm thấy đã bị bắn vào năm 2010. Trong tháng 10 năm 2011, các Java cuối cùng tê giác tại Việt Nam đã bị bắn và sừng đã bị xóa bỏ, có nghĩa là tê giác đã được xác nhận đã tuyệt chủng tại Việt Nam.
