Về các nguồn năng lượng, VMC chủ yếu dùng điện năng, để chủ động đảm bảo an toàn về năng lượng. VMC duy trì hợp đồng mua điện trực tiếp từ Điện lực Quảng Ninh với lưới áp 35kV, được cung cấp bởi 2 mạch. Ngoài ra, VMC cũng sử dụng các nguồn năng lượng khác như than, dầu FO, … nhưng không nhiều và 100% nguồn này được cung cấp bởi các công ty trong ngành.
