Tôi cho rằng chúng ta đang trải qua một thời khắc rất quan trọng – thời khắc Zuckerberg. Khi mà thông tin được chuyển thành tri thức và tri thức được sử dụng để sản xuất ra sản phẩm và dịch vụ. Và vì nó dưới dạng số nên nó có thể gửi đi và được nhận bởi nhiều người cũng như từ nhiều nơi khác nhau, dưới các cách thức khác nhau. Thứ hai là sự xuất hiện của mạng Internet. Mạng Internet cho phép chúng ta gửi những nội dung như tôi đã nói ở trên đến nhiều nơi trên thế giới, đồng thời tới nhiều người nhận khác nhau. Nhân tố thứ 3 là sự xuất hiện của phần mềm xử lý công việc. Những phần mềm này thì cho phép con người ở khắp nơi trên thế giới hợp tác với nhau, tương tác với nhau. Tôi ở Mỹ có thể hợp tác với các bạn ở VN và ngược lại, các bạn ở VN cũng có thể tương tác với những người ở Mỹ và ở khắp nơi trên thế giới. Thứ 4 là sự xuất hiện của Google. Google với tư cách là một cỗ máy tìm kiếm thông tin, cho phép tôi tìm kiếm thông tin của bạn, bạn tìm kiếm thông tin của tôi. Và 4 nhân tố trên đã tạo nên cơ sở cho cái mà tôi gọi là Thế giới phẳng. Thế giới đó có nhiều thông tin hơn, từ nhiều người hơn, từ nhiều nơi trên thế giới, có thể trao đổi với nhau với giá rẻ hơn rất nhiều và hiệu quả hơn rất nhiều. Dựa trên nhận định đó, tôi tuyên bố: Thế giới là Thế giới phẳng.
