Khoảng mùa Đông Chí , vị thần Mithras (Mặt Trời) này được hình tượng chiến đấu với bò rừng. Ngày 25 tháng 12, người ta giết bò đực và rải máu khắp cánh đồng: đất trở nên mầu mỡ hơn và mùa màng tốt đẹp hơn. Tại Rome, ngày này là ngày có đêm dài nhất, người ta làm lễ đón Mặt trời trở về, tượng trưng bằng một bé sơ sinh.
