Beatrix Potter was a story writer whose books about animals have been translated intomany languages and read by both children and adults. Besides being an author, she was alsoregarded as a very successful farmer.Born in London in 1866, Beatrix was cared for at homeby various servants. Every year she counted the days to herannual holiday in the countryside. She would take to her London home with small animalswhich she observed and drew. As she grew up, sheentertained other children with drawings and stories about these animals. In 1901, shea book printed at her own expense called ' The Tale of Peter Rabbit. ' So many copies weresold that she bought a farm, where over the next eight years she wrote many other stories.They all sold very well and readers liked their detailedcolour drawings.With her growing income, Beatrix started buying morefarmland, animals and property. After her marriage, at the age of 47, Beatrix stoppedwriting, saying that she had run out of ideas.
