Sáng mùng 1 Tết, người Hàn có phong tục tắm rửa vệ sinh sạch sẽ, mặc quần áo cổ truyền, uống gui balli sool (một loại rượu bổ), sau đó tiến hành nghi lễ cúng Tổ tiên gọi là Chesa do trưởng nam trong gia đình đứng ra làm lễ. Đồ cúng cùng với rượu gạo được bày trên mặt bàn giữa nhà. Trên đó cũng đặt các bài vị tổ tiên viết trên giấy sớ sẽ đốt đi sau khi cúng. Chủ gia đình thắp hương, khấn mời Tổ tiên, cả nhà cùng bái lạy làm lễ.

Sau lễ Chesa là lễ Seba, con cháu bái lạy ông bà, cha mẹ với ý nghĩa chúc mừng năm mới và chúc may mắn. Ông bà, cha mẹ sẽ thưởng tiền hoặc vàng, ngọc hay một món quà quý nào đó tuỳ thuộc vào tuổi, vị trí của người con cháu trong gia đình cũng như điều kiện, hoàn cảnh của gia đình đó.
