Các thuộc tính ẩn có thể khiến cho chúng ta khó tìm ra những khuyết điểm của phần mềm , làm cho sản phẩm tạo ra bị những lỗi phức tạp và gây ra khó khăn trong việc phát triển phần mềm . Các kỹ sư công nghệ phần mềm rất khó để hình dung cấu trúc chi tiết của phần mềm . Đến nay công nghệ mới như XP vẫn chưa thể thay đổi được tính chất vô hình của phần mềm .
