Để thực sự trở thành công cụ quan trọng trong quản lý kinh tế, báo cáo tài chính phải đảm bảo các yêu cầu cơ bản dưới đây:
- Báo cáo tài chính phải được lập chính xác, trung thực, đúng mẫu biểu đã qui định, có đầy đủ chữ ký của những người có liên quan và phải có dấu xác nhận của cơ quan, đơn vị để đảm bảo tính pháp lý của báo cáo.
- Báo cáo tài chính phải đảm bảo tính thống nhất về nội dung, trình tự và phương pháp lập theo quyết định của nhà nước, từ đó người sử dụng có thể so sánh, đánh giá hoạt động sản suất kinh doanh của doanh nghiệp qua các thời kỳ, hoặc giữa các doanh nghiệp với nhau.

- The financial statements to ensure consistency of content, process order and method of preparation according to the decision of the state, from which the user can compare, evaluate production business activities of enterprises over time, or between businesses together.
